I just ordered my onetouch minimeter 2 days ago and it said that it will take 2-4 weeks or something to get here and I was just wondering if it actually took that long? Has anyone else ordered this? Did it just come in the regular mail? Also did it come with test strips? Thanks so much!
i didnt order it- my doctor gave me a bunch of free meters at the hospital. i'm not sure if it should take that long, it's pretty ridiculous, but it should just come in a package, maybe through UPS or fedex.
most meters come with a startup thing of 50 test strips, but they run out quickly.

ya u can use a regular thermometer.....put a little bit of vaseline on it and use it rectally.....make sure there is a diaper under her cuz this trick also cures any constipation.......since your baby is under 2 months old, u need to watch her temperature closely, if it gets over 100.5F u need to take her to the hospital.....and to the lady who said to put it in the underarm....that is the most unreliable way to take a temperature.....it is not accurete at all

Has anybody had an overnight oximetry test done for sleep apnea? I had to get an oximeter from the hospital and wear it overnight (for a minimum of 6 hours) and then bring it back to the hospital the next day. Apparently normal levels are from 96 - 100%. Before I fell asleep, it was varying around an average of 96 -98. But then I fell asleep and woke up halfway thru the night to use the bathroom and noticed it had dropped down to only 82%. Obviously this is significantly below the normal range, but I'm wondering just how serious of a drop this is. Does anyone know anything more about this? Thanks!

The Answer is this:
Although very important for detecting sleep apnea, oximetry is not the ONLY thing necessary to diagnose sleep apnea. There are several things that can cause an oxygen desaturation on oximetry. Sleep apnea is one of them.
A single drop in oxygen by itself is probably not too alarming if it lasts for a few seconds - this could be artifact. However, if it occurs every 30 seconds. This could be very suggestive of sleep apnea. But this could be obstructive or central sleep apnea - totally different beasts.
So, if there is any doubt about the diagnosis, a proper sleep study should be ordered - polysomnography.

Is it true that your blood pressure starts to go up when you're close to labor?
I'm not sure if this is true but someone told me that your bp will start to go up when you're getting close to going into labor. Is that true? I'm 8 months pregnant and my bp usually runs about 90 something/ 60 something. The past few days the top number hasn't gotten below 111 and the bottom hasn't gotten below about 73. Which isn't high, but is higher than usual. This is my first pregnancy and sometimes i feel like i have the dumbest questions! Thanks!
While you are pregnant, your body produces more blood that usual. Since you still have the same veins as before, your blood pressure can go up a little. Normal blood pressure is between 90-120 systolic (top number) over 60-80 diastolic (lower number). So what you're experiencing now is ok (:
Im 38 weeks pregnant and today I went to the doctors. They told me that I have some protein in my urine. I thought that usually meant that I had a bladder infection. Now I have to do a 24 hour urine test. My blood pressure was 90 over 64. He also said that it could be a chance that I have preeclampsia. I thought your blood pressure had to be high for them to the you have that. My blood pressure has been low for the last three weeks and hes just saying something now. Also I dont have any type of swelling. Why would he wait until now to say something. What will happen if I do have preeclampsia?
up to 11% of severe preeclampsia patients do not have elevated blood pressure but do have protein in their urine. I hope everything goes well. I am an L&D Nurse doing special research on preeclampsia for our unit.

What could be the reason for weight loss in the 3rd trimester?
I am 33 weeks pregnant and in my last 3 app. Ive lost 5 lbs. I know its not significant but i know that i should be gaining so close to the end not losing. I also have not changed my eating habits. Do I need a reservoir for my oblique pen holder?/ what ink do I need?
I am starting to learn Spencerian calligraphy, and I purchased a Speedball kit that included 1 oblique penholder, two types of pointed nibs, but no reservoir. I don't need a reservoir, correct?
Also, I purchased Winsor and Newton Calligraphy Ink, but the black seems way too thin (the gold works great). Is it the ink or me? I was under the impression that metallic inks were not for the beginner, but I'm getting way better results with the metallic, perhaps I'm doing something wrong if I can't get the black ink to work.
Do I seem to have the right supplies?
pointed nibs have an 'eye'...a little hole...that helps to hold the ink. make sure you clean the nib with a soft cloth/gentle soap...maybe an old soft toothbrush to remove the coating on new nibs.
higgins eternal ink is inexpensive and works fine. i use the winsor/newton inks without problem---it could be the nib. speedball nibs are not my favorites. for information about nibs and spencerian, see spencerian.com. you need a sharp, flexible nib to make the heavy shades and the thin lowercase letters.
