hi, I have an insulin pump myself, when transferring from injections to pump, took a little while to get used to. Your diabetic nurse will tell you the doses of insulin you need to start with, then you need to monitor your blood glucose levels very carefully while you are on the initial dose of insulin, and alter your doses accordingly,. once your doses have been worked out the pump really keeps your blood glucose levels pretty stable, but the key to all this is, that you learn everything you need to know bout the pump, insulin doses, and your own blood glucose patterns, keep a diary. It will all sound pretty complicated at first, but soon it will all become very easy. I didn't have to go into hospital at all, and my diabetes was very brittle, and unstable before the pump. The pump only gives a small background dose of fast acting insulin every hour, and you bolus whatever you need when you eat. This can be re-adjusted at any time, or suspended, in case of a hypo, it is instant, unlike insulin injections, which I found were like playing Russian Roulette, all guess work and hope that you have made the right calculations. I went in with 2 other people and smoked 1 1/2 joints yesterday last night around 9 and forgot that I have a drug test today at 3 or 4. I weigh about 125 lbs and NEVER smoke pot. Will this small amount show up in my system at 3 p.m. today from 9 p.m. last night? I am going to get a drug test from Walgreens, but worry that if they put it under the GSM instead of doing a dipstick test, that I might fail it and I can't afford to. Advice? I attended a court ruled drug class and learned that marijuana has a halflife in your system. How long it takes to leave your system depends on how much you smoke. But the time maxes out at around 45 days. One smoking session for someone with a clean system takes about 3-4 days to be clean. Smoke 2 days later and then have to wait about a week, and so on. The time it will take roughly doubles every time you smoke until it maxes at about 45 days to be clean. So if you are maxed out and you wait about 2 weeks and then smoke again, you're basically back to 45 days.
This also depends on the test. Most job drug tests only test down to about 100 nanograms, which isn't dead accurate but will pick up if you are a smoker obviously. Court-appointed tests can test anywhere down to 10-20 nanograms, which is very accurate, and can also detect high levels of water, and any other drug test liquids. You can not fool those tests, and drinking water and tea does nothing for getting weed out of your system at all. The ONLY way to get it out is time, because it is in your blood.

Can expired blood test strips read really high in error?
I checked my blood sugar on a meter that I had from 10 years ago when I had gestational diabetes. The test strips expired in 2005. It read in the 400's.
I had been working in the garden for awhile and when I came in I felt shaky, jittery and disorientated. This usually means my sugar may be a little low. But when I checked the meter it read so high I became worried.
I can't go out right now to get new strips, especially for something I haven't been diagnosed with. I am going to schedule an appointment for myself.
Could the reading really be that "off"?
If stored correctly step strips may still be accurate after the expiration date but test strips that are 5 years old are of no benefit. The reading certainly may be 'off' although there is no study which has tried to answer the question of expired test strips and whether they tend to give high, normal, or low readings. If you have no symptoms now you may wish to buy a fresh package of strips tomorrow and test your glucose. You might also consider buying a new glucometer as most people do not keep their glucometers past 5 years. There has never been a study designed to answer whether or not glucometers loos accuracy with time. There has also been considerable refinement in glucometers over the past 5 years. Should you choose to test your glucose consider the following guideline: a non-diabetic's fasting glucose typically does not exceed 100 mg/dL and a non-diabetic's 2 hour postprandial (after meal) glucose typically does not exceed 140 mg/dL. Obviously it is always appropriate to see your physician whether you have symptoms, questions, or concerns. If I may be of further assistance please let me know. Why am I constantly thirsty? Even when I'm not on my period! This is so weird!?
I know sometimes it's a sign of diabetes and for women, periods, but I don't have diabetes because I eat healthy, am not overweight, and my blood already got checked and no signs showed up. I even get constantly thirsty when I'm not on my period and when I'm not in a hot area. It's so weird.
