I have the same one and set it on number 5. It seems to work best for me. Some of my fingers don't seem to bleed as easily as others but number five does the job on all of them. Nothing sucks more than having to stick yourself twice because your finger didn't bleed enough.

Went and had my GD test today, A 2 hour one, Firstly they took blood than I drank the sweet drink an hour later they took more blood than an hour after that they took more blood. Before I drank the sweet drink the lady tested the blood and compared it to some sort of colour chart and she said my sugar levels were quite high (9 exactly). I also fasted for this test, 10 hrs prior (except for water did drink that). Do you think this means I have GD or could I have a high sugar level reading without having GD?
Go get my results from the doctor next week, just curious and want to know what others think and may have experienced. Really hope I don't have it, have had MASSIVE cravings for any thing sweet, it's torture I just want to eat a million mars bars, LOL.

Try not to worry till u get the results back I'm not sure how they tested your blood, but the usual prick test normal is 4-7 so if you got a 9 you would be slightly high but not In a coma!!!
My mother had GD think hers were around 20 when they tested her which is high. She has now got type 2 diabetes the finger prick test is what she uses every day. Usually the hospital will take blood from your arm so they can do a full blood count and check your haemoglobin levels at the same time. Hope u r ok let us know how u get on x
By the way my GTT results were 4.7 before and 4.7 afterwards to give u an idea x

Does being overweight generally always equal high blood pressure?
I am about 30 pounds overweight. I purchased a high en omron BP machine and have averaged my BP ratings over 30 days at 117/78. sure it spikes up some here and there when I'm active during the day, but that is my overall 30 day average. I always thought people who werre overweight usually always had high BP?
Also, prior to this, I was checking my BP with an acient hand pump unilt made in the 80s and it kept reading my BP as about 135/95 or so. With the new ($250) unit, it has always been normal. I guess some of those older units were not accurate.
it usually does, but not always. the upper number is systolic. this measures the overall pressure from the left ventricle of the heart. the lower number is diastolic. this is the measurement of the pressure of the heart during relaxation of contraction. normal ranges vary depending on many factors. from the info you supplied i would suspect that you may be ok. just a word of warning though, it is really unwise to trust a bp monitor totally because while it is a machine, they are generally not as accurate as a manual bp reading. some pulses are so faint that the monitor can't differentiate between when to mark a pressure.

My mom is diabetic and has been eating a lot of rice and spaghetti but she says that rice doesn't count as pasta so it's okay for her to eat rice the day after she just had some spaghetti. I consider them both pasta. They're both white and of the same texture and I've always heard people refer to both as pasta. Isn't rice considered a pasta? Rice is a grain and is actually grown. Pasta is made from flour. But, BOTH of them are starches and carbs and should be limited. Carbs will raise blood sugar levels (also legumes). She probably shouldn't have carbs more than once a day TOTAL. We've found that eating tofu, though, will lower my husband's blood sugar after meals (as much as 30 pts once), so I'll sometimes put some cubes in spaghetti sauce to counteract the carbs in the pasta.
