Ima just wondering. My cousin is pregnant right now, and she has gestational diabetes and is losing weight while pregnant, so did my mum. My other cousin however gained 32lbs pregnancy weight, and then another 20lbs, so shes currently 40lbs overweight. So, mums, if you are back to your pre-pregnancy weight, how did you do it? When I was pregnant, I gained 65 lbs with my daughter. I was 5'11 and 130 prepregnancy. When I gave birth, a week over due, I was 5'11" and 195. Before leaving the hospital, I lost about 30 lbs of it due to water retention with having an August baby. About 6 months after having my daughter, I lost it all due to watching what I ate and exercising. However, I am pregnant again and I vow to only gain 30 lbs this pregnancy and not go overboard with my middle of the night snacks. lol

has anyone ever used a bedwetting alarm?

my son is 8 yrs old and still wets the bed every night. we use pullups, but he is almost too big to fit in them anymore. we've tried not putting a pull up on and he just sleeps through the night and wakes up in a mess. he doesn't drink anything after about 7pm; he goes pee right before bed. anyway i have found a bedwetting alarm online and was thinking about trying it. has anyone else used one and was it successful?

I bought one last August for my daughter. She was 6 at the time and wet, soaked, every night. We used pullups as well but figures she would start with the sleepovers so we wanted her to be OK for that. She has done very well with it. The first few times the alarm went off, she would sleep right through it so I would go in , wake her up, and make her turn off the alarm and go to the bathroom. SOmetimes, at first, it would alarm a few times a night. Now she wets only a couple times a week. I have a calendar that we mark and if she stays dry 4 nights in a row we go to the dollar store or someplace inexpensive and she gets to pick a prize. She can save up her days and get a bigger prize but she has neve been able to do that yet. I was hoping that by now she would not need it anymore but 1 drop every few nights if much better then saoking everynight. I think it's worth a try.

Probably not, although Haagen Daaz is a great choice for those purists out there who refuse to eat anything that has been contaminated by preservatives and high fructose corn syrup, it has never been a particuarly healthy choice, due in fact to the sweetness and use of sugars in its ice creams. So unfortunately, while it may be a good idea for haagen daaz to investigate and test on..the result is that the ice cream maker will most likely not go the healthier route, since decadence is really in the name. But hey with the growing trend of healthy food brands, it could be a possibility. By the way, Skinny cow is a great brand for ice cream, i know it may sound like its another water downed version of things, but trust me the chocolate ice cream sandwiches are delicious.

How should I handle medical negligence with my VET?

A few weeks ago I noticed my cat violently vomiting a clear liquid with a bit of froth to it.It was VERY smelly and I knew that wasn't right. I looked up all of her symptoms an deduced that it was an intestinal obstruction. It made sense since she loves stealing my daughters bows. I went first thing that monday and told the vet that. He dismissed that thought, gave her 2 shots sent her home and told me to keep an eye on her. I brought her back monday EXTREMELY lethargic and dehydrated. He kept her overnight, ran tests and said he thought she was diabetic. I started her on insulin by saturday, and on sunday she went into a coma! I took her in, he gave her something to bring her back. and told me to wait 1 day then resume shots at 1/2 dosage. Wednesday i got a second opinion with a new vet. SHE NEVER HAD DIABETES! SHE HAD A STRING WRAPPED AROUND HER TONGUE, DOWN HER THROAT AND IN HER TUMMY! I HAD TO PAY $1,130 FOR HER SURGERY! And now her liver is damaged from not eating. What do i do?

The man I'm dating is a type 1 diabetic, as is his father and grandfather, He is his fathers only child. He doesn't want to have kids because he doesnt want to pass on the diabetes. I don't know how many of his aunts/uncles have diabetes if any of them. Diabetes does not run in may family, we're not even prone to type 2 or late onset, only diabetic in my family is married in type 2. Actually hypoglycemia runs in my family very heavily in females.
What is an honest probability to our children having the illness? I know that I will not change his mind, and i will not try to. But it greatly disheartens me to know that I will never have a child with this man.

There is a genetic component to Type 1 diabetes. Usually the chance of passing it on is 2-10%, somewhat higher for males than females. However, in some families, the risk is much higher. This may be because people in this family carry a specific disposition or gene for autoimmune diseases and/or Type 1 diabetes. There is no such thing a "diabetes skips a generation". Although it CAN, it can also appear in any and all generations, or only occur in 1 person over 5 generations.

There is no real way to predict an exact number, but if there is a strong family history, I would *guess* in the range of 30-50%.

He may be interested to know that there are many studies looking at ways to try and prevent Type 1 diabetes in offspring. One study is called TRIGER, and looks at avoiding cow's milk from birth.

There is some evidence to suggest that a gluten free and casein free diet may help protect some infants prone to developing Type 1 diabetes, in addition Omega 3 and Vitamin D supplementation.

There are no guarantees, of course, but it can't hurt. We know that in some families with a strong history of Type 1, many also have silent Celiac Disease (gluten intolerance). By cutting out gluten from birth, we *may* be able to prevent or delay Type 1 in some of these cases. Omega 3 and Vitamin D also function as immune modulators, which may help stop the autoimmune attack that causes Type 1 to appear.

Lastly, your guy may realize how hard it has been to live with this disease, and may not want to create a child who has a higher possibility of getting it. That is his right, and no one can fault him for that.

Perhaps you could adopt. Right now there is no way to alter the genes that cause Type 1 diabetes to prevent the disease in offspring. We don't even know all the genes that cause it! That is quite some way off.

What could cause my blood pressure to spike over a weeks period?

I had an allergy test done about two weeks ago and my blood pressure was 115/65.. Well about a week ago I started feeling like there was alot of pressure behind my eyes and i would feel really lightheaded and dizzy. I just figured it would all pass but it hasn't I even think it's getting worse. I just checked my blood pressure a few minutes ago at a walgreens from a hand held test not a machine. My blood pressure now is at 129/96 so that might be causing this feeling?.?... I also got hit really hard in the calf with a softball but already had the doctor look at that. Thanks for any help.

The elevation in BP is not that drastic, and those numbers are not that high.
Have you been tested for Diabetes?
