i have 2 of them....i LOVE love love them. our master bedroom is upstairs, the kids room downstairs, and my husband works midnights. that monitor is that only thing that ever gives me piece of mind for sleep at night esp since i have horrible hearing.
they make a bunch of diffffernt kinds...digital ones, ones with room temp on it, ones with extra long sensor pads. i prefer the extra long sensor pads, and never get false alarms.
this was worth every penny, esp if you plan to have more kids...and the resell on them is great.

My dad was diagnosed with diabetes 5 years ago. He is doing all he can to follow the doctors' guidelines. He has learned to limit his portions, does his exercises, but seems to not be able to shed much weight. Our family is concerned, as we don't want him to develop other health issues because of the weight. There has been no one else in our family with this condition. Since dad was diagnosed, he has met co-workers and neighbors who also have the same condition. Mostly all of them are heavy and seem to put on weight easily. What type of exercise would best benefit him? Is it just naturally harder for diabetics to lose weight? His doctor has given him a new eating guide, like a menu of the type of foods to eat, when to eat them and the quantity. But the weight loss seems to be happening at a very slow rate, that the new diet habits hardly seem to be helping him at all with the weight issue. Any other suggestions on how he can lose and keep the weight off?

I am 28 weeks pregnant and is diagnosed with GD using the 1 hour glucose challenge test. My doctor has ordered me to a dietitian, and after 2 hours of lecture, I realize I already know all the information she has to provide. I have decided to buy one of those glucose monitor on my own, and start checking the numbers myself. Question is, I have cut out ALL sugar and almost all carbohydrates in my diet. I have also started to measure my own fungal height and circumference of my belly, and so far my baby isn't gaining much inches, or weight :- I'm thinking about ordering another ultra sound just for my benefit and see if the baby is growing over weight.
I have changed my diet and exercise plans. Can I go thru pregnancy with out a dietitian's intervention? Also, what type of tests should I try to also do? I was thinking about the ketone pee strips too in addition to the glucose monitor.
You don't have to see the dietitian very often. I was diagnosed with GD with both my pregnancies and saw them 2 times each. They just want to monitor your blood sugars to make sure you are staying under the target range. If you aren't, and you can't control your sugars with diet alone you will need medication. This is NOT something you can prescribe yourself. Do yourself and your baby a favor and go in for the short visits (the subsequent ones are not as long as the first visit).

When flying do I need my prescription labels for my meds ? can meds be out of their original contaners ?
I am diabetic and also take other meds - when I fly ( domestic) do the pills and insulin have to be in their original from the pharmacy labeled containers ? Can I fill a med organizer and leave the bottles at home ? What about the insulin pen cartridges ? I'm only going to be gone for a week and need to bring 1 and a spare of them (2) - not the box full (5) the label for these is on the big box. Do they all have to be in a clear quart bag - I have no experience with flying , so please pardon me if my questions seem dumb .
ALWAYS CARRY YOUR MEDS WITH YOU!!! Do not put your meds in your checked bags. You never know when you or your bags may be delayed.
It is best to carry your meds in their origional packaging with pharmacy label. This not only assists with security issues, but is also critical if you are in an emergency situation and medical staff need to know what you are taking and the dosage.
Your meds do not have to be in a 1qt bag, however, it is best if they are all kept together in one bag. If you take lots of meds, and they don't fit in your carry on, you can take a seperate bag with your medical equipment or medications and not face an excessive bag penelty (according to the ADA, they must make 'reasonable accomodiations' and diabetes is considered a disablility).
FYI- you will find sharps containers in the restroom of the airport to safely dispose of your used needles.

I bought home my gorgeous new 12 week old kitten on Thursday night, she's been really nervous - running to hide whenever she's unsure of something, but is gradually coming out of her shell to claim her rightful place as Queen on the house ;-D
I'm starting to get a little worried about her though. She's eating really well, I'm feeding her Whiskas kitten pouches and she has a bowl of dry food in case she gets the munchies, but she hasn't really bothered with that. She's not the biggest drinker, but knows where her water is and has had a few goes. She's been using her litter box well for urinating but I haven't seen her pass a stool yet & I'm starting to get concerned. I've read olive oil is good but other than that am out of ideas. I really don't want to pack her off to the vet in the cat carrier so soon as she's just starting to get her confidence around us (she really, really hated that thing when we bought her home).
Any advice?????
This kitty is probably going somewhere other than the kitty box. I can guarantee you that this kitty would not eat if she were impacted. Whiskas is not a great food for cats. I would try to buy a better quality food at the pet store. Never buy cat food from a grocery store. Innova is a great food. The store cat food has a lot of fillers and cats eat meat in the wild. Your cat will live longer and have a healthier life if you feed a high meat diet. She should be on dry food all the time with a treat of canned high quality food 2 times a day. Good Luck!
