I'm looking for something that will be cheap initially and over the long-term since my insurance is bad on coverage. I'm using the Accu-Chek Multiclix lancing device now but it is pretty expensive and I would definitely use something cheaper if I could find it and if it worked well. Thanks.
E bay has some cheaper ones. But as for lancets I use one for 6 month at a time. I just wipe lancet with alcohol. Thats as cheap as you can get. Also check the least amount of times as you can. If I test good for 2 days I don't check for a week or more. That is if I follow my diet. Good luck

What is done with blood pressure cuffs in isolation rooms?
I am a nursing student, and I've always wondered, what happens to the blood pressure cuffs that are in isolation rooms? I've heard about disposable blood pressure cuffs, but do all facilities use them? And let's get real, I can imagine that in order to be cost effective, they use the same ones over and over again. If you work in ISO, please note that and if you can, the facility! If your facility has guidelines, please let me know! Thanks!!!
where i work there are disposable cuffs for portable vital signs machines......but there are also wall cuffs/bp taking device......the wall cuffs are cleaned w/solution proven to kill common hospital germs.........the rooms are sanatized to a greater extent than nonisolation rooms......it would be nice if they were all super sanatized.....im not exactly sure of the protocol for cleaning of isolation rooms because they are cleaned by environmental services......

Which is more accurate for taking blood pressure readings at home, wrist or arm?
I would like to purchase a digital blood pressure monitoring device. Which is more accurate a wrist or arm device? Also which brand is best for the price?
Thanks in advance.
The arm is more accurate the Price's vary depends were you purchase it as now been proved that Chemist's have been known to get it wrong with there monitor's you must also no that it as been clinically Verified by the Hypertension Authority as there a lot of unreliable cheap ones out there giving all the wrong readings from them
one thing you have to remember this is not a toy unless you no how to use these my on opinion when taking blood pressure yourself you can get wrong readings as to when what time of day depends on if you have been exercising to be honest you are better going to a DR you also don't check it every time you do anything as this can lead to you getting anxious so if you are serious about getting one i would not recommend it you have to be qualified to no how to use one i am an ex nurse i should no when i first learnt while training its not Always easy to find your pulse you have to get the stethoscope in the right place another thing if you don't get the right cuff size it will blow straight of your arm the wrist ones are not Always correct i would leave well alone let the experts sort it i am not telling you to go get one or not that is up to you but do make sure you no what you are doing if you do i am not the judge of what you but but i only can advice you hope this has helped you

Has anyone used these before? I should've started this morning. I used a test strip, the control line came up right away, I waited the amount of time that it said. BFN. BUT, where the max line is there was another pink line (under the plastic, I lifted it), then it moved all the way up passed the control line into the handle part of the strip?? (Sorry if this isn't making much sense) If I don't start in the morning, I will take another.
the part where you lift doesn't count. Usually when the control line is dark, means the test is finished and if the pregnancy one didn't show up, then it won't. Everything you see under the wax line is with the same product as the "control" line.

Could I be diabetic and should I check my sugar levels?
For a little while now I've been experiencing some symptoms .. the same symptoms that could mean you have diabetes. My best friend is a diabetic. Could he check my blood sugar with his tester thing? Also what kind of reading should I be looking for?
No. You should make an appointment with your family doctor to discuss your symptoms. There are several different tests that your doctor may choose from to make a diagnosis, and each test has its own instructions that you will have to follow ahead of time.
Testing your blood sugar with your friend's meter isn't going to give you any useful information mainly because you won't know how to interpret the numbers or how to adjust them for meals, carbohydrates eaten, exercise, etc. For example, if you eat a meal that is high in carbohydrates and then test your blood sugar an hour to an hour and a half after eating, you just might show a number that is higher than "normal." But that number is actually perfectly healthy for someone who has just eaten.
Only your doctor should evaluate your symptoms and run the appropriate tests.
Good luck to you. I hope you're only thirsty because the weather is hot and humid, and I hope if you're hungry a lot it's only because you're hitting a growth spurt!

For about a year now my mother, 48 years of age, has been getting severe nerve pains all throughout her joints, i.e. shoulders, elbows, wrists, fingers, knees, and ankles.
Those pains she describes as if she was getting electrical shocks & at times as if her bones were breaking. She's already seen her doctor who did tests and said her bones have some minor arthritis, yet there should be no symptoms for it since it's only minor & can still be treated.
I did some research and I believe that what she has is Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy since the symptoms seem to be the same as what she's going through.
If anybody can help me by giving my information on what she may have and how she can go about making the pain less severe I will be greatly thankful.
i agree with you, it's really bad at nite, my toes feel like little hot balls of fire, i soak them, yu can try ibuprofen, but it usually goes away after an hour or two my sugar doesn't run high either, talk to her doc.of course we are treated by "advisory committees" now instead of doctors..oh well.
