Does drinking Pepsi increase your risk for type 1diabetes?
My best friend has had a few symptoms of diabetes, and I'm quite scared for her. She drinks between 1-5+ cans of pepsi a day, and she has been for the past few years. It's almost all she drinks.
Does this increase her risk for type 1 diabetes? She's 13.
No it doesnt. Your friend is completely safe. THe nature of how Type 1 Diabetes has developed is still not quite clear but it is definately not from having too much sugar. If your friend continues to have a diet of a lot of sugar for a long period of time, they will eventually develope type 2 diabetes, which is COMPLETELY different from type 1. Type 2 is reversible from weight loss and diet changes, type 1 is forever and cant be cured.

doctors or bio experts: help with Biology case study dealing with homeostasis please!?
Giuseppe, age 46, was brought to the hospital. He complained of frequent urination, excessive thirst and tiredness. He was tested for urinary infection but results were negative. He was 7kg overweight for his age. H showed evidence of dehydration in his skin and was disoriented. He was given a saline solution to hydrate him.
I have this last case study and i can't figure out what it is. I think its diabetes insipidus but im not sure :S and if it is...i can't figure out what causes those symptoms. Please helP!
thank you!!!!!!!!!!
If DI is a choice, then it sure sounds like it. However, I can't pinpoint the exact type of DI (neurogenic or nephrogenic), unless the disorientation is a clue. The dehydration and frequent urination are signs indicating DI, but those are not very specific, they result from poor water reabsorption by the kidneys (nephrogenic DI) or insensitivity to ADH (neurogenic DI).
Biogetica Diabetes Insipidus Essentials-Kit stimulates the pituitary gland to rectify the deficiency of vasopressin.* It maintains normal frequency of urination and the urine output to prevent any electrolyte imbalances in the body.* The excellence of this product lies in the fact that it simultaneously normalizes the other disordered functions of the pituitary gland, which is the master gland of ...

What is the best time of day to take a blood pressure reading?
Is it 'normal' for blood pressure to vary widely over just a few hours between readings? (At the moment mine is behaving a bit oddly - e.g. a couple of hours after exercise it can be as low as 120/75+ yet just a few hours later it can be as high as 140/90+)
Yes, your blood pressure varies all the time. I check mine straight after I get up and have been to the loo. I know that stress sends mine all over the place (I can suffer from 'white coat syndrome' too which is why I have started checking my own), Caffeine will alter it, hydration will alter it, exercise will alter it etc etc. Even which arm you use can matter in some people, my right arm gives lower readings than my left.

I went to my fathers to eat and ate a BUNCH!! of pizza. I went home and my grandmother is diabetic type 2 so i ask to check my blood sugar an hour later and it was 135. She said that was sort of high after and hour. my friends was 108. my grandmopther said it should be between 80-120. is that true and am i diabetic?
First of all, did you make sure you washed and dried your hands before testing? That can give improper readings.
Secondly, your grandmother should know that it's a pointless exercise in testing your blood sugar levels so soon after eating as this will, undoubtedly, produce raised blood sugar levels. You should wait for approximately two hours after eating before testing as this is the time it takes for your pancreas to produce insulin and for that insulin to have the desired effect in lowering your blood sugar level. (Insulin allows the glucose (sugar) in your bloodstream to be taken into muscles where it is used to make energy.)
In a non-diabetic the 'normal' range for a fasting (after not eating overnight) blood sugar level should be between 70 and 99 mg/dL.
After eating, in a non-diabetic, this level would not normally rise more than 140 mg/dL.
You don't say whether or not you're experiencing any symptoms of diabetes ... polyuria (frequent urination), polydipsia (extreme thirst), or polyphagia (extreme hunger), weight gain or loss without trying. (There are other symptoms that some people might experience, though many type 2 diabetics do not experience any of them.)
If you are at all concerned, you should book to see your doctor. S/he will carry out the appropriate blood test(s) if s/he feels that it is warranted.
