Heart Rate Variability (HRV) is the measure of the beat to beat variation in heart rate. Baroreceptors detect the change in pressure upon standing and trigger the sympathetic nervous system to cause vasoconstriction , increase heart rate and stroke volume, thereby increasing blood pressure back to normal. Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia (RSA) is a cardiorespiratory response characterised in mammals by heart rate fluctuations that are in phase with inhalation and exhalation. Recordings made under controlled breathing with the assistance of a metronome accentuate the predominantly parasympathetic determined high frequency response. Postural changes are also seen to influence RSA. Several theories have been proposed as to the mechanisms behind RSA. Peripheral Theory postulates that mechanically induced BP fluctuations stimulate baroreceptor mediated changes in circulation. Central Theory postulates that respiratory oscillations in medullary neuron firing rates drive RSA.
HRV triggers a sympathetic heart rate and sometimes a cardiorespiratory response. Recordings accentuate the high frequency response. Postural changes are Peripheral theories which mediate changes in the respiratory oscillations which results in neuron firing rates, driving RSPCA.
For the pst few days my left leg has been swelling allot, and it hurts, allot. Can't bend my foot towards my chest without it hurting. Also hurts to walk. I am a diabetic, insulin dependent, my weight is good, but due to other illnesses I am not as active as i should be. When I push on parts of my calf and inner thigh, it really hurts. Last night my left leg was so swollen I couldn't believe it. No rash or redness, just swelling and PAIN. What is going on. This has never happened before. I didn't hit my leg on anything, and no sprains. What could it be.
My kidneys are fine. I looked up a condition known as phlebitis, and I have all the symptoms. Though other swelling problems are similar. Does anyone know anything about it?

A individual is coming over for dinner who is diabetic/requires dialysis.
I am not sure exactly what to make to for dinner. I know sugar even in natural forms is off limits except a little fruit and carbohydrates should be to the absolute minimum. I cook and eat a lacto - ovo low fat, high vegetable, fruit and legume diet already (with fish once in a while) so meat is not an issue.
Please, does anyone have any suggestions, recipes, experience or tips for me?

Prior to my kidney and pancreas transplant, I was diabetic and also on dialysis.
First, diabetics CAN have sugar. It is not off limits. It would be good if more people knew this and knew how much the diabetic guidelines have changed. If their blood sugar is under decent control, then some sugar is ok.
Dialysis requires a strict (and annoying) diet. Here are some of the foods that dialysis patients need to avoid or limit: tomatos, corn, potatoes, bananas, nuts, chocolate, cheese, most dairy products. Most meats are ok, but not ones like bacon, sausage or hot dogs. Food with lots of sodium (canned vegetables, pizza, most boxed foods) are not good choices. Soups full of sodium are bad. You cannot have dark colas. Lots of times there are fluid restrictions , but you friend should be in charge of that.
Now she/he may have different restrictions, or more freedom, but I think this covers the basics.

My advice would be to talk to his doctor about switching blood pressure medications. There are many out there.
