The heat is probably coming from the backlight. Reduce the brightness to reduce the heat, although the difference might not be large.

Triglycerides are off the charts?

This question is pretty much a continuation of a question i've already asked -- "before and after the doctor." My husband, who is 25, just had a rude awakening at the doctor today. His triglycerides are 1,879, his total cholesterol is 328, and his HDL is 27. All of these numbers seem outrageous to me and the doctor was shocked, saying he's never seen numbers like that in a 25 year old. His blood pressure was also 152/110. My husband has an extensive history of heart disease in his family (his grandpa having 6 heart attacks and a triple bypass, and his dad also had bypass surgery). It's obviously not all genetics, I know how he eats and it's not good. I need some good suggestions from people who know what they're talking about to tell me what to do to help him bring down these numbers. I don't want comments like "take out a life insurance policy."

My dad has diabetes 2;age 78. what is a safe low sugar level?

Lately his levels have been up and down. today it went down to 25.
he is on some kind of pill to control the high level. don't know the name, sorry.

my mom and I both tested the meter and our readings came out normal so i think the meter is correct.

My diabetes fluctuates wildly too. Have had it hit 38 quite a few times. Normal healthy readings fall between 80-140. Eat a piece of hard candy if it fall to low again, making sure to retest 5-10 minutes later. Or even a glass of milk contains some natural sugar. He has to be careful not to let it get to low as a coma can and will kill you. Best thing is to talk to his doctor and maybe get with a dietitian to plan out a stable diet. How active you are plays a big role also--good luck

First of all when she goes into a dream pattern, don't wake her up. You can gently stroke her if you feel this helps, but being jolted into awakeness isn't a good idea. Secondly I think you need to be certain this is dreaming - I guess it could be possible she's fitting - does she eliminate when she's doing this? However, I seriously doubt this is the case - she just has a bit more that's happened in her life, to dream about. Keep an eye on the frequency of these violent episodes, and if this continues, or gets worse, talk to your vet who may need to run some tests to see what's going on.

ps I've not heard of spaying being used to control diabetes to be honest - one I must check up on!! Much as it's good to get her spayed in any case. I'm a diabetic and nobody has suggested I have a hysterectomy - but again, my sister had uterine cancer, and had a full hysterectomy. She's type 1 inj. diabetic, and being 'spayed' has not had the slightest effect on her diabetic status. Perhaps it's different with dogs!

I'm making my mom oatmeal chocolate chip cookies tomorrow for mothers day. She's diabetic, and I can't decide which recipe would be a little more healthier.
Which recipe would you suggeest?
1. 1/3 cup margarine, softened
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 egg
3 teaspoons vanilla
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup quick-cooking rolled oats
1/3 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Vegetable cooking spray

The top one has less sugar and less chocolate chips in the recipe. Also if you can get some sugar substitute that would be helpful. If your mom doesn't like the taste of the suger substitute then you can use half real sugar and half substitute.

Is there another medication to treat Alzheimer's Disease other than Aricept or Nameda (? spelling - newest).

My Mom is 84, in the latter stages of A D, she has been on Aricpet (spuradically) for the last 2 years or so, she was still living alone and more times than none did not take her medication. Well the AD progressed and her doctor prescribed the new medicine, Nameda (spelling might be wrong), my Mom took this drug for every bit of 5 days and almost went into diabetic shock, she is not diabetic. She vomited blood and became totally disoriented, more so than ususal, at that point I brought her to live with me and she has been her for 3 weeks now. The new medication was stopped and since she she has been here I tried to observe her closely when it came to her medicine. She is only otherwise slight hypertensive. Well one day when I left the room after giving her breakfast and placing her mediation in front of her, I assumed she had taken both pills. That day she seemed more lucid than ever, later I found that pill under my table the next morning. What to do? Try without the pill?
